Over the school holidays, three of our students travelled to Christchurch to compete in the NZ Secondary Schools Clay Target Championships.
On the first day of the competition the weather conditions were reasonable and then on the second day the weather turned, and they had strong winds and SNOW!
The snow was settling on their shoulders whilst on the Trap and all scores were down for all competitors compared to the previous day.
Shooters compete on the first day and their results determine whether they are selected to represent our region in the regional teams competition. Both Olivia and Lana made the girls team and Hamish made the boys team.
There were outstanding results across the board and medals as follows:
Olivia Brogden
GOLD medal - female postal shoot
SILVER medal - individual regional competition
Lana Breingan and Olivia Brogden in the regional teams event earned SILVER, missing out on the shield by one point.
Hamish Seymour in the boys team finished 4th place overall.
Amazing results, in trying weather conditions. It's fair to believe that noone expected to be shooting in the snow.
Congratulations Lana, Olivia and Hamish.
Thank you to the Taupo Trap Club for supporting these young people and providing the facilities and amazing volunteer coaches enabling our students to participate in this sport.
