Sailing - NZ Secondary Schools Championships

The 2026 Secondary Schools 420 Team Sailing Nationals were held in Whangārei from 13–19 April 2026 during the second week of the school holidays, bringing together 28 teams from across Aotearoa to compete in a full week of team racing.

In the wake of cyclone Vaianu wind conditions were incredibly variable with racing suspended firstly due to no wind, then too much wind, creating a challenging environment both on and off the water. Despite this, racing went ahead, demanding strong teamwork, communication, and adaptability from all crews.

Taupō Nui-a-Tia College was represented by a team of eight students, led by team captain Connor Pink. The team showed commitment and determination throughout the regatta, working cohesively and building momentum across the week. Their performance reflected clear progress from the previous year, with improved coordination and race execution, making the experience both competitive and rewarding for the whole squad.

Congratulations to Connor, Louie, Alex, Amy, Caitlin, Mac, Elliot and Sophie.
And a massive thank you to all the parents and helpers for enabling this amazing week to happen for the students.
