College Closed after Fire – as @ 9 Feb 2026

The college suffered a significant fire on Sunday night and Fire and Emergency New Zealand remain on site today, keeping the fire contained and the site safe. The affected N-block housing 13 classrooms and our Bay Trust health services - full extent of the damage is still unknown. The Ministry of Education’s Emergency Response Team is on site and assessments are underway to determine next steps. Security is in place and safety fencing will also go up to keep a safe perimeter around the fire zone. In the interim the College site will remain closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This will allow the different teams to do what is needed to keep the school community safe. Teaching staff are currently working on an online programme for students. Students will be notified on Google Classroom and via email when their online learning programme is available. The road to recovery from this fire will not be an overnight one, but school leadership, with support from the Ministry of education, will ensure effects of the fire do not significantly impact on students’ learning.
