It's been 5 long years since the last NISS Ski Championships due to both a mixture of Covid and poor snow fall years.
It's fair to say the organisers were desperate to run the event and it's amazing they managed to pull if off under trying conditions! Unfortunately the weather closed in and all the Giant Slalom skiers only managed one run. There was plenty of time spent inside warming up and spending time together as a team.
We sent an 8 strong team who all did themselves and the College proud with some particularly strong results as follows:
Fleur van den Elst
3rd place Senior Girls GS (missing 2nd by 0.02 of a second!)
Vojta Salamon
11th place Senior Boys GS
Olive Gillies
5th place junior girls slopestyle
11th place junior girls Giant Slalom
OVERALL TEAM - 7th place
out of 24 schools across NZ, WOW
Congratulations also to competitors Madison Gillies, Anton Heyn, Noah Reinert and Anna Volz
And to Hendon Gillies, Dave Gillies and Suze Stevenson, thank you for braving the conditions and making this event possible for our students. Also, to Bevan Thompson for running the show!
