NGĀ MANU KŌRERO SPEECH COMPETITION 2025
Friday 22 o Akuhata
Taupo-nui-a-Tia College was alive with talent, confidence, and culture at this year’s Manu Kōrero Speech Competition. Held in the Karikaroa (school wharekai), the event brought together students from different year levels to showcase their public speaking skills in both English and Te Reo Māori.
The Manu Kōrero competition is a well-respected event across Aotearoa, designed to encourage young people to develop confidence in oratory, while also celebrating Māori language and identity. At Taupo-nui-a-Tia College, the speeches reflected a wide range of important themes, from identity and whānau, to environmental issues and leadership in today’s world.
Each speaker impressed the judges and audience with their creativity, courage, and ability to deliver powerful messages. The event also highlighted the strong support of kaiako, whānau, and fellow students, who encouraged the speakers throughout the day.
Regardless of placings, every student who took the stage demonstrated determination, pride, and the spirit of kotahitanga. The Manu Kōrero event not only celebrated the art of speech-making, but also strengthened the cultural heartbeat of Taupo-nui-a-Tia College. It was a day of inspiration, and one that will be remembered by students and kaiako alike.
