Cyclists going for Gold
Last weekend the NZ National MTB championships were held in Rotorua, with the XC (cross-country) MTB races on the Saturday.
Bianca Stewart took out a win in the female U17 XC category, claiming the national championship title in her category.
Her race was over 3 laps of the same 6km circuit used for all races - a challenging but fun course, with each lap featuring a long steep climb and technical descent.
For most of the race, Bianca was battling at the front of her field with a competitor who was marginally stronger on the climbs but less quick on the descents.
Bianca finally got ahead near the end of the final lap, and held on for a win to claim the title.
Other riders from TNT competing were Louie Cameron (finishing 2nd in M Sport category) and George Newman (19th in M U15).
It was a fantastic day of racing for the Taupo MTB Club, with Taupo riders taking out 4 national titles across youth and elite categories to be the most winningest town/club, along with some great results from other Taupo riders.
