Celebrating Amélie Wood!

Cycling National Track Series - Round 1

Amélie did amazingly well at a completely different indoor velodrome than she is used to, competing against U23 and placing second. Amélie had the fastest qualifying result for U17 Female and placed first in this grade overall. As this is a National event, only top qualifying athletes are permitted to enter. All the best for Round 2! Amélie also competed in the first of three track competitions hosted by the Morrinsville Whellers Cycling Club. Amélie competed in C Grade against an all-adult male group of riders. She placed 2nd in the 15 laps scratch race and 1st in both the elimination race and the points sprint race, securing first place overall in the C Grade. WOW!

Athletics Achievements

Athletics NZ places athletes on their ranking system once they achieve a specified level of achievement in an individual discipline. Amélie received a Silver Award for 300m hurdles and a Gold Award for both triple jump and hammer throw.  These three top events Amélie has achieved in are not part of the National Heptathlon event Amélie has competed in the past two years. For that, she has to train in 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m sprint, long jump, javelin, and 800m run!

Amélie has been presented with a trophy by the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Athletics Association for the top points score in the U18 Female category.

What an amazing athletics season! Congratulations, Amélie!
